Saudi Museum for Modern Art in JAX: A canvas of contemporary
expression emerges in Diriyah
In the heart of Diriyah, an upcoming cultural renaissance is
about to take place with the impending inauguration of the Saudi Museum for
Modern Art in JAX. This significant endeavor signifies the unwavering
commitment of the Ministry of Culture to fulfill the aspirations of Saudi
Vision 2030 by promoting contemporary art and empowering artists in the Kingdom.
Supported by the Quality of Life Program, this museum is
designed to be a dynamic platform that fosters best practices and showcases
contemporary artworks. It is poised to serve as a vibrant hub for the
burgeoning contemporary art community in Saudi Arabia, offering a space for
dialogue, expression, and creative exploration.

The grand opening of this transformative cultural space is
in perfect harmony with the concurrent hosting of the International Biennial of
Contemporary Art of the South (BIENALSUR). Making its debut in Buenos Aires in
July, this global exhibition is themed "Imagine Fantasy, Dreams, and
Utopia" and features over 400 artists from 27 nationalities, including ten
artists from Saudi Arabia. The exhibition promises to take visitors on a
journey between reality and myth, challenging perceptions of place and sparking
the imagination.
The Ministry of Culture's hosting of BIENALSUR for the third
time reflects its commitment to showcasing the finest contemporary art
practices and enriching Saudi Arabia's artistic and cultural landscape. It
aligns with the broader mission of the Ministry to facilitate international
cultural exchange, a strategic goal that harmonizes with Saudi Vision 2030.

The inauguration of the Saudi Museum for Modern Art in JAX
marks the initial step toward the establishment of a monumental cultural
institution in Diriyah. In collaboration with the Diriyah Gate Development
Authority, the Ministry of Culture envisions the creation of the Kingdom's
first museum of modern art, which will be a vast space destined to become one
of the largest both in terms of area and art collections on display.
The forthcoming museum in Diriyah will complement its
counterpart in JAX by featuring a permanent art collection. Meanwhile, the JAX
museum will play a dynamic role, hosting three temporary art exhibitions
annually, in addition to a spectrum of cultural and artistic events.
Together, these twin cultural landmarks are poised to
redefine the artistic landscape, providing a canvas where modern and
contemporary works of art unfold, enriching the cultural tapestry of Saudi
Arabia.
