Saudi Arabia expanding EV charging network to facilitate growing demand
New Murabba, a Public Investment Fund company, has
signed a strategic agreement with Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Company
(EVIQ) to deploy electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across key
assets within its flagship downtown development. The initiative reinforces
sustainable mobility goals, enhances services for employees and visitors, and
lays the groundwork for future residents — in line with the broader objectives
of Saudi Vision 2030.
Comprehensive Charging Rollout
The agreement covers the installation, operation,
and maintenance of a network of AC and DC chargers tailored to diverse user
needs. By integrating charging solutions directly into core facilities, New
Murabba aims to ensure reliable access for daily commuters, business users, and
high-turnover traffic — accelerating EV adoption across Saudi Arabia’s urban
centers.

High-quality AC chargers will be installed at
the New Murabba Headquarters, while DC fast chargers will be deployed at
multiple locations throughout the wider development. This dual-approach
strategy aligns charging speeds with parking durations and traffic patterns,
maximizing convenience and asset efficiency across office, commercial, and
mixed-use environments.
·
AC chargers will serve locations where vehicles remain
parked for extended periods, such as workplace parking areas, enabling routine
daily charging.
·
DC fast chargers will be positioned in high-traffic
zones, where rapid turnaround is essential for drivers and fleet operators.
Supporting National Sustainability Goals
New Murabba emphasized that the partnership
strengthens alignment with national green initiatives under Vision 2030,
particularly in advancing clean transportation and low-emission urban planning.
By embedding smart mobility solutions into its infrastructure from the outset,
the development aims to remain globally competitive in sustainability standards
and technological readiness.
The agreement also establishes a framework for
continued collaboration beyond the initial rollout. Both parties intend to
adapt the infrastructure to evolving technologies, future upgrades, and
shifting mobility demands — ensuring long-term environmental impact and
operational efficiency.
