Saudi Crown Prince unveils major modernization project in Makkah
Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud,
Crown Prince, Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of RUA
AlHaram AlMakki Company, has unveiled the King Salman Gate Project, a landmark
multi-use development set to redefine the urban landscape of the Holy City of
Makkah.
Spanning a gross floor area of 12 million square
meters adjacent to AlMasjid AlHaram, the project represents a major milestone
in Makkah’s modernization, positioning the city as a global model for
sustainable and inclusive urban development.
A new Gateway to the holy mosque
Strategically located beside the Grand Mosque,
King Salman Gate will serve as an integrated hub designed to enhance
accessibility, elevate service quality, and enrich the spiritual and cultural
experience of pilgrims and visitors alike — in alignment with the objectives of
the Pilgrim Experience Program under Saudi Vision 2030.

The development will feature residential,
hospitality, commercial, and cultural zones, along with indoor and outdoor
praying areas accommodating up to 900,000 worshippers. The design seamlessly
integrates public transportation networks, ensuring smooth mobility and ease of
access for residents and visitors.
Architecturally, the project will blend Makkah’s
traditional heritage with contemporary design, creating a unique urban identity
that reflects both reverence and modernity.
Preserving heritage, driving growth
A key component of the initiative includes the
restoration and development of 19,000 square meters of heritage sites,
preserving Makkah’s historical and cultural legacy while enriching the visitor
experience.
Economically, the King Salman Gate Project is
set to play a vital role in Saudi Arabia’s transformation agenda, contributing
to Vision 2030 by creating more than 300,000 jobs by 2036 and boosting the
city’s long-term economic vitality.

The project is being developed by RUA AlHaram
AlMakki Company, a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF). The company
aims to advance PIF’s strategy of promoting sustainable urban growth around
AlMasjid AlHaram and positioning Makkah as a world-class benchmark for real
estate development.
