Chinese companies win $1.13 billion
contract to relocate King Saud University
Diriyah Company has awarded a $1.13
billion (SAR 4.225 billion) construction contract to a joint venture between
China Railway Construction Corporation Saudi Branch and China Railway
Construction Group Central Plain Construction Co. Ltd. (CRCCSA & CRCGCPC),
marking a major milestone in the ongoing development of the Diriyah masterplan.
The project involves the relocation
of King Saud University’s (KSU) utilities and administrative offices. In
addition to this core task, the contract includes construction of a district
cooling plant, water storage systems, a sewage treatment facility, an LPG/SNG
plant, diesel transfer pumping stations, a utility tunnel, irrigation water
tanks, and supporting infrastructure such as office buildings, warehouses, and
maintenance workshops.

Strategic Infrastructure for a
National Vision
Part of Saudi Arabia’s broader
Vision 2030 initiative, Diriyah is a flagship urban development project backed
by the Public Investment Fund. Once completed, it will span 14 square
kilometers and accommodate nearly 100,000 residents. The project also aims to
become a regional hub for professionals in technology, media, education, and
the arts—creating an estimated 178,000 jobs and attracting up to 50 million
annual visitors.

Economic Impact and Global
Collaboration
The Diriyah project is expected to
contribute approximately $18.6 billion (SAR 70 billion) to Saudi Arabia’s GDP.
The latest award adds to a growing list of major contracts signed in 2025,
bringing the total value of agreements issued by Diriyah Company this year to
over $2.9 billion.
