Gender equality at work: Alice
Kim, Director Project Controls and Reporting at RSG
In the realm of construction, Alice Kim stands tall as a
beacon of innovation and sustainability. At Red Sea Global (RSG), diversity
isn't just a buzzword; it's ingrained in the corporate DNA, enriching the
culture and reshaping the construction landscape.
Alice's journey in construction commenced over 18 years ago
in Kuwait with KBR, serving a rare female presence, especially in roles like
Project Management Office (PMO) and Project Controls, supporting multifaceted
functions and liaising with the US Military. Her experience included a pivotal
stint in Afghanistan, amidst a cold Christmas, where she, as the lone female
delegate, contributed significantly to standardizing processes for a major
military logistics contract. Over time, from Parsons/Abu Dhabi Airport Company
to Expo2020 and Turner & Townsend/Schiphol, and now at Red Sea Global, the
narrative has shifted. Women aren't merely note-takers but are spearheading
negotiations, becoming subject matter experts, leaders, and even CEOs (ADAC,
Expo2020).
Trade
to play a key role in promoting Red Sea Global development: Tracy Lanza
Gender parity is a cornerstone of RSG's ethos. With one in
four employees being women, they aspire to elevate this figure to 30% by 2024,
fostering equal opportunities and fostering gender equality in a traditionally
male-dominated sector amid the Kingdom's rapid development.
Integral to their diversity strategy is Saudization, with
40% of employees being Saudi nationals, a figure set to rise to 45-50% by 2024,
underscoring their commitment to the Kingdom's progress.
However, their commitment transcends recruitment metrics.
RSG champions an environment where every employee, regardless of gender, has an
equal chance to excel and lead. Alice champions mentoring, with RSG providing
platforms for senior colleagues to impart wisdom, instill confidence, and
nurture career advancement. This mentorship extends to workshops and leadership
meetings, where junior colleagues, including participants of the Elite Graduate
Development Program, are empowered to take on more responsibilities, fostering
a supportive ecosystem where women thrive, are respected, and uplift each
other.

At RSG, equality isn't just a concept; it's a lived reality,
embodied through policies, practices, and a culture that fosters advancement
and leadership, setting a paradigm for the construction industry and beyond.
