Saudi Arabia's Oxagon to be symbol of innovation and sustainability
Vishal Wanchoo, CEO of Oxagon, hailed the city as a symbol of innovation and
sustainability at the forefront of Saudi Arabia’s transformation, emphasizing
that NEOM Port is poised to redefine global trade.
A Vision for Sustainable Industry
Oxagon, an industrial city within NEOM, is designed as a clean ecosystem to
host the factories of the future, operating exclusively on renewable energy to
achieve net-zero emissions. Strategically situated on the Red Sea near global
shipping routes, it is primed to serve as a central hub for international
markets and urban centers.
Advancing Sustainable Solutions
Wanchoo underscored the environmental challenges of traditional industries,
which often contribute to climate change. He stressed the urgent need for
sustainable practices, leading Oxagon to embrace clean technologies and green
energy.
“Oxagon offers a cutting-edge industrial ecosystem powered entirely by
renewable energy. This allows global manufacturers to meet their net-zero
targets,” Wanchoo stated.

Strengthening Trade Networks
Aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, Oxagon focuses on enhancing logistics and
developing local, regional, and international trade networks.
“Our seven industrial zones and vibrant urban areas are designed to drive
economic growth through retail and hospitality,” Wanchoo explained. NEOM Port,
an advanced facility on the Red Sea, plays a pivotal role in connecting global
trade routes.
“With over 13% of global trade passing through the Suez Canal, NEOM Port
serves as a critical link between Europe and Asia,” he added.
Driving Economic Growth
Wanchoo outlined Oxagon’s goals for the next five years, including economic
diversification, fostering innovation, and attracting foreign investments.

“We’re collaborating with leading manufacturers to strengthen local supply
chains and position Saudi Arabia as a global manufacturing hub,” he noted.
Commitment to Sustainability
Oxagon emphasizes sustainable construction, exemplified by Oxagon Hive, a
pilot community that reduces waste and costs while ensuring scalability.
Since taking over Duba Port in 2022, Oxagon has transformed it into a
sustainable, automated facility.
“We’ve repurposed 100% of excavated materials and recycled old port
facilities for new projects,” Wanchoo revealed.
Pioneering Green Hydrogen
Oxagon houses the world’s largest green hydrogen plant, developed by NEOM
Green Hydrogen Company. Slated for completion in 2026, the plant will produce
600 metric tons of carbon-free hydrogen daily using solar and wind energy.
Currently, 60% of the infrastructure is complete.
NEOM Port plays a vital role in the project, facilitating the delivery of
critical components like electrolyzers and wind turbines.

Innovation and Research
Oxagon Innovation Bay, set to launch in 2025, will drive research and
development, supported by NEOM’s Enowa-Circle power station. The hub’s first
project is a 20 MW electrolyzer to produce 8 tons of hydrogen daily, providing
insights to optimize the main plant.
Recent Achievements
Wanchoo highlighted milestones from 2023 and 2024:
- 2023: The launch of a global accelerator with
McLaren addressed supply chain challenges. Seven startups were selected
from 80 applicants, and three pilot projects are now active in NEOM.
- 2024: NEOM Port opened to investors, and seven
startups advanced to the final stages of development from over 100
participants.
Overcoming Challenges
“Building a new industrial model is complex,” Wanchoo remarked, “but by
adopting advanced technologies like AI and robotics and partnering with
innovative companies, we are addressing global challenges and creating
sustainable solutions.”
