The introduction of these
new trains is expected to enhance connectivity between Riyadh and Dammam, two
of the kingdom's major cities.
Valued at 600 million Swiss
francs, the agreement entails Stadler supplying 10 trainsets initially, with an
option for an additional 10 sets. Alongside the provision of the units, Stadler
will offer comprehensive maintenance support and spare parts for a decade,
extendable to an additional 10 trainsets for another decade.
His Excellency Engineer
Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and
Chairman of SAR, remarked, "The procurement of these modern trains
addresses the growing demand for East Train services. These trains will
effectively double the annual capacity of the East Trains to over 3.8 million
passengers and facilitate direct express service between Riyadh and
Dammam."
