Red Sea Global’s off-grid charging network to cater to electric cars

Red Sea Global to meet growing needs of electric cars

Red Sea Global has successfully established a vast off-grid electric vehicle (EV) charging network in Saudi Arabia, catering to the growing influx of electric cars in the emerging tourist destination.

This extensive network encompasses over 150 strategically positioned charging stations seamlessly integrated into the first phase of the Red Sea tourism hub.

The stations are located to power a fleet of 80 guest transport vehicles, featuring electric models such as the Lucid Air and Mercedes-Benz EQS. John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global, expresses the company's commitment, stating, "Our ambition to combine sustainability and luxury takes a new form as we drive The Red Sea into the future of next-gen, smart mobility, fully powered by sunlight."

Pagano emphasizes that the electric transport fleet and charging network not only enhance environmental credibility with a global benchmark in carbon-neutral operations but also align with guests' expectations for high-end style and comfort.

Reserved exclusively for guest use, the fleet facilitates transportation between the airport, resorts, and various destinations, including dining locations, luxury marinas, golf courses, and other high-end leisure amenities during their stays at the Red Sea destination. Guests can book the electric vehicles in advance or request them on demand.

This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia's broader goal to achieve net-zero emissions, positioning the country as the world's largest destination powered by renewable energy. To support the electric fleet and charging network's introductory phase, Red Sea Global has constructed five solar farms equipped with 760,000 photovoltaic panels.

Andreas Flourou, Group Head of Mobility at Red Sea Global, remarks, "Red Sea Global heralds a new era of cutting-edge mobility with Saudi Arabia’s premier luxury EV fleet marking a milestone in sustainable transportation."

The establishment and operation of this electric fleet are anticipated to create around 1,500 jobs, including chauffeurs, hub managers, EV charging specialists, and skilled technicians. Flourou emphasizes that their carbon-neutral operations not only provide guests with a seamless and stylish travel experience but also contribute to job creation and empowerment of young Saudis.

Looking ahead, Red Sea Global plans to introduce Saudi Arabia's first fleet of carbon-neutral electric buses for staff transportation. The company is actively exploring various sustainable transportation solutions, including e-bikes, vans, trucks, yachts, ferries, boats, airside vehicles, and off-road leisure pursuit vehicles.

The first phase of the Red Sea destination is well underway, with the operational Red Sea International Airport welcoming its inaugural guests in September 2023. Bookings are now open for the first two hotels, and the recent launch of the first seaplane company in the Kingdom, Fly Red Sea, adds to the allure of the destination. Upon completion in 2030, the Red Sea destination will boast 50 resorts, providing up to 8,000 hotel rooms and over 1,000 residential properties across 22 islands and six inland sites.
