Saudi Arabia achieves milestone with completion of largest off-grid EV charging network

Saudi Arabia has reached a significant milestone in sustainable transportation as The Red Sea Global (RSG) successfully wraps up the installation of Saudi Arabia's largest off-grid electric vehicle (EV) charging network. This network comprises more than 150 strategically positioned charging stations within the first phase of The Red Sea destination area.

This achievement is a testament to RSG's commitment to sustainability and luxury, as they set out to power their fleet of 80 electric vehicles, including models from prestigious brands like Lucid and Mercedes, using solar energy. John Pagano, the Group CEO of RSG, voiced their dedication to the fusion of sustainability and luxury, expressing, "Our aspiration to blend sustainability and opulence like never before is taking on a new dimension as we steer The Red Sea towards the future of cutting-edge, intelligent mobility, entirely fueled by the sun's energy."

The utilization of electric vehicles, including the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQS and Lucid Air, is exclusively reserved for guest transportation while staying at The Red Sea. These high-end EVs are set to provide a seamless travel experience for guests, whether arriving, departing, or navigating the various resorts and facilities. Guests can access this premium electric fleet via advanced reservations or on-demand services.

The necessary infrastructure to support this fleet is already in place, including a mobility hub that will generate 1,500 new job opportunities, ranging from chauffeurs to EV charging specialists. This initiative also aligns with RSG's commitment to empowering young Saudis in local communities.

In addition to the electric vehicle fleet, The Red Sea has set its sights on achieving carbon neutrality once fully operational, marking it as the world's largest destination to run exclusively on renewable energy. To power the EV fleet and charging network, five solar farms equipped with 760,000 photovoltaic panels have been established.

Andreas Flourou, the Group Head of Mobility at Red Sea Global, emphasized the company's dedication to cutting-edge mobility and sustainable transportation, saying, "Red Sea Global heralds a new era of advanced mobility with Saudi Arabia's premier luxury EV fleet, marking a milestone in sustainable transportation."

As part of their sustainable transport initiatives, RSG intends to introduce Saudi Arabia's first-ever fleet of carbon-neutral electric buses for staff transportation within The Red Sea. They are also exploring sustainable transport options such as e-bikes, vans, trucks, yachts, ferries, boats, maintenance vehicles, airside vehicles, and off-road leisure vehicles.
