Qiddiya to be a focus of entertainment
and sport in Saudi Arabia
Populous has revealed its innovative designs for the Qiddiya
Stadium, a striking venue in Saudi Arabia's tourist megaproject named after
Prince Mohammed Bin Salman. The project is financially supported by the Qiddiya
Investment Company (QIC), where Salman serves as the board chairman.
The stadium's design, reminiscent of Cyberpunk 2077
aesthetics, features neon lights and futuristic elements, creating a
captivating play castle. Positioned atop a 50,000-meter-high clifftop, the
stadium offers breathtaking views of the city and desert, making it an ideal
tourist destination just 40 minutes from Riyadh.

The multifunctional stadium, with a retractable roof
resembling a portal to a futuristic city, accommodates various events,
including football, boxing, Esports, concerts, and theater. Boasting a seating
capacity of 45,000 and compliance with FIFA requirements, the venue aims to
host regional matches like the 2034 Asian Games and aspires to secure an
international bid for the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
Noteworthy is the stadium's commitment to environmental
sustainability, featuring a retractable roof and a lake underneath for runoff
and cooling. While aligning with eco-friendly practices, Qiddiya Stadium faces
competition from NEOM, an accessible zero-emissions city nearby.
