McLaren Racing CEO terms Diriyah E-Prix as 'first class'

McLaren Racing CEO, Zak Brown, has expressed high praise for the Diriyah E-Prix, labeling it as "first class" in anticipation of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship race scheduled for the weekend.

The seasoned Californian, who transitioned from a professional racing driver to leading roles in motorsport business and commercial ventures, is currently in Saudi Arabia to support NEOM McLaren Formula E Team drivers Jake Hughes and Sam Bird at the Diriyah E-Prix.

Brown, aged 52, is eagerly anticipating rounds two and three of the all-electric Formula E season in Diriyah, emphasizing the unique night races held under the lights. He commended the Kingdom for its exemplary hosting of elite motorsports.

Describing the Diriyah E-Prix as "great" during a pre-race press conference, Brown stated, "Everything out here is first class. It’s one of the drivers’ favorites. The facilities are great, and I always like when you land at an airport and as soon as you land, you know that there’s a race going on. It means you know that the city and the country are fully behind the race."

Highlighting the significance of the Diriyah E-Prix, now in its sixth edition, Brown acknowledged its importance in Saudi Arabia's broader aspirations to foster motorsport in the country. He emphasized how the race in Diriyah, with its impressive attendance and captivating night setting, effectively represents Saudi Arabia on the global motorsports stage.

Regarding Saudi Arabia's role in the wider motorsport landscape, Brown commented, "Just look at what Saudi Arabia has done through different races in different territories – there’s been lots of different fans exposed to different forms of motor racing. The race in Diriyah is really well attended, looks great under the lights and represents Saudi Arabia really well."

 

Diriyah Company to be a key partner for Formula E Diriyah E-Prix

 

Looking at the future of Formula E, Ian James, the team principal of the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team, affirmed their strong commitment to the championship, noting its upward trajectory. He highlighted positive engagement figures at the start of the season and the strength of the race calendar, indicating a promising direction for the series. The 2024 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship race calendar includes 16 races, with the opening race held in Mexico earlier in the month.
