Saudi Arabia has introduced its first commercial autonomous food delivery service at the ROSHN Front Business District in Riyadh, marking a significant step toward smart urban mobility and sustainable delivery solutions.

The initiative is a collaboration between the ROSHN Group and delivery platform Jahez, licensed by the Kingdom’s Transport General Authority. The service aims to speed up food delivery, reduce carbon emissions, and cut traffic congestion while enhancing customer convenience.

Jayesh Maganlal, Chief Information and Digital Officer at ROSHN Group, said the launch reflects the company’s commitment to “expansion, innovation, and sustainability.” Mohammed Al-Barrak, Chief Technology Officer at Jahez, added that the project follows the company’s strategy to optimize logistics through automation.

During the pilot phase, five autonomous robots will deliver meals from nearby restaurants within the business district from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The robots, equipped with over 20 sensors, six cameras, GPS navigation, and climate-adapted cooling systems, are designed to operate safely even in crowded pedestrian areas. They can communicate with passersby using on-screen messages such as “Hello” or “I need help” and are built with suspension to handle uneven surfaces.

Future plans include expanding the service to the ROSHN Front shopping mall and eventually to residential communities across the ROSHN network.

The project builds on Jahez’s previous exploration of autonomous logistics, including its announcement at the LEAP 2024 Exhibition to deploy 10 self-driving delivery vehicles.

ROSHN Group emphasized that the initiative aligns with green mobility goals, aiming to lower emissions, enhance air quality, and promote sustainable urban living in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
