AI and robotics themes dominate at Diriyah Center for Arts events 

The Diriyah Center for Arts of the Future is hosting a dynamic series of events throughout December, focusing on the transformative impact of AI and robotics on contemporary art. These activities are part of the center’s ongoing exhibition, Art Should Be Artificial: Horizons of AI in Visual Arts, which explores the intersection of art, technology, and innovation.

Engaging Programs and Workshops

The month-long program includes workshops, talks, and hands-on sessions aimed at fostering dialogue among artists, researchers, and the public about the evolving relationship between art and technology.

Key highlights include:

·         Dec. 20: “Building Robots” by Louis-Philippe Demers
Renowned artist Louis-Philippe Demers will lead a discussion on his groundbreaking work in performance art, exploring creative interactions between humans and machines. His work challenges traditional boundaries, offering fresh perspectives on the integration of art and robotics.

·         Dec. 21: “Interactive Geometric Formations” by Lulwah Al-Homoud
Saudi artist Lulwah Al-Homoud will present a symposium examining how Islamic art, mathematics, and digital tools inform her practice. She bridges traditional art forms with modern technology, demonstrating the synergy between heritage and innovation.

·         Dec. 20-21: Robotic Avatar Workshop
Demers will conduct a two-day workshop where participants will learn to design and create movable robotic avatars, offering hands-on experience with integrating robotics into artistic projects.

Earlier in the month, the center hosted:

  • Dec. 5-7: “Visual Programming” Workshops
    Led by Nasser Al-Shammari, these sessions introduced participants to digital media and real-time graphic processing techniques.
  • Dec. 6: “Inside the Mirror” Talk by Leonardo Dellanocce
    Art historian Leonardo Dellanocce explored how virtual environments like the metaverse influence artistic representation and human perception.

A Hub for Creative Innovation

Established by the Museums Commission, the Diriyah Center for Arts of the Future is dedicated to advancing new media and digital arts. It serves as a collaborative platform for artists, scientists, and technologists to innovate and elevate Saudi Arabia as a global leader in creative and technological advancements.

Group CEO of Red Sea Global, John Pagano, emphasized the center’s role:

“Our mission is to position Saudi Arabia as a hub for creative innovation, nurturing emerging talent and fostering collaborations that push the boundaries of art and technology.”

The center’s December programming showcases its commitment to fostering a new era of artistic exploration, where traditional disciplines are seamlessly enhanced by cutting-edge technologies.
