Saudi Arabia constructs world's longest continuous pedestrian
skywalk network
The King Abdullah Financial
District (KAFD) in Riyadh has achieved a major milestone,
officially setting a Guinness World
Record for the world’s
longest continuous pedestrian skywalk network — a
15.46-kilometre climate-controlled pathway that redefines urban mobility in the
Kingdom.
This groundbreaking infrastructure seamlessly links 95 buildings via 42
elevated skywalks, allowing residents, professionals, and visitors to navigate
the district without encountering traffic, extreme weather, or parking
constraints. Directly integrated with the Riyadh Metro, the skywalk is part of
KAFD’s broader smart city strategy focused on sustainability, livability, and innovation.

A Monument of Modern Engineering
Constructed with 30,000 square meters of glass — the size of four FIFA
football fields — and over 3,000 tonnes of steel, the skywalk represents a
remarkable feat of engineering. The project recorded over five million safe
working hours, with 1,200 professionals contributing to its successful
completion.
Faddy AlAql, Chief Asset Delivery Officer at KAFD DMC, said:
“This recognition by Guinness World Records affirms KAFD as a national
platform for transformative urban development. Beyond its scale, the skywalk
reflects a mobility strategy designed to connect people to opportunity,
experience, and innovation.”

A Model for Future Cities
Far more than just infrastructure, the skywalk interconnects a vibrant urban
ecosystem that includes residences, offices, retail outlets, dining venues, and
entertainment spaces — all designed to enhance convenience, accessibility, and
urban life quality.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Mbali Nkosi praised the achievement,
stating:
“The previous record held by Minneapolis has now been redefined by KAFD. In
an era where sustainability drives innovation, this skywalk sets a new global
benchmark for smart, walkable cities.”
Advancing Vision 2030
The recognition marks another milestone in Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, as
KAFD continues to attract top-tier global companies. The district is now home
to over 90 local and international firms, including 19 regional headquarters
such as Goldman Sachs, Bain & Company, and PepsiCo — reinforcing Riyadh’s
role as a rising hub for business and innovation.
