NEOM Green Hydrogen project moves forward with 85% completion

Mohammad Abunayyan, Chairman of ACWA Power, announced that the NEOM Green Hydrogen Project has reached 85% completion, with testing and commissioning scheduled for next year.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum, Abunayyan confirmed that green hydrogen exports to Germany and Europe will commence soon after commissioning — a key milestone in advancing global decarbonization efforts.

He also highlighted ACWA Power’s broader contributions to the renewable energy sector, noting that the company currently has 22 gigawatts of capacity under development or construction and signs contracts for an additional 20 gigawatts annually.

Looking ahead, Abunayyan said Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy capacity is expected to reach 130 gigawatts by 2030, positioning the Kingdom as a major exporter of green energy — whether as electricity or green hydrogen — to Europe and neighboring countries.
