Firms submit bids for construction of Diriyah's Radisson Red Superblock

Saudi Arabia’s Diriyah Company has received prequalification submissions from firms interested in constructing the Radisson Red superblock, part of the second phase of the ambitious Diriyah Gate development (DG2).

The prequalification process opened on 11 June, with submissions due by 22 June.

Set within the Boulevard East district—strategically located between King Khalid Road and the Grand Boulevard—the Radisson Red superblock will feature a hotel, residential apartments, retail outlets, commercial office space, and a park. The project adds to a growing portfolio of large-scale mixed-use developments in Diriyah.

Several other high-profile superblocks are also expected to hit the market later this year, including the Waldorf Astoria, Edition, and Pendry superblocks.

Broader DG2 Developments

The Radisson Red project is just one component of the expansive DG2 plan. In April, Diriyah Company tendered a contract for a landmark museum in the same area.

That same month, MEED reported the awarding of two major contracts:

·        A SAR 4bn ($1.1bn) utilities relocation package for the King Saud University (KSU) project, awarded to a joint venture between China Railway Construction Corporation and China Railway Construction Group Central Plain Construction Company.

·        A SAR 5bn ($1.3bn) contract to construct the Royal Diriyah Opera House, awarded to a consortium including El-Seif Engineering & Contracting, China State Construction Engineering Corporation, and Qatar’s Midmac Contracting.

Meanwhile, the tendering process is ongoing for additional key projects, including the King Khalid Road upgrade and the Arena Block in the Boulevard Southwest section of DG2.

The Vision for Diriyah

The Diriyah masterplan envisions a 14-square-kilometre cultural and lifestyle hub northwest of Riyadh. Anchored in over 300 years of Saudi heritage, the project will blend history, hospitality, and modern urban living, ultimately supporting up to 100,000 residents and visitors.

Diriyah Company has already awarded several multi-billion-riyal contracts as part of this vision:

·        In July 2024, a $2.1bn contract went to Albawani and Urbacon for developments in the Wadi Safar district.

·        In December, Nesma & Partners secured a SAR 5.8bn ($1.5bn) deal to develop the Jabal Al-Qurain Avenue cultural district.

These milestones reflect the scale and pace of Saudi Arabia’s gigaprojects as the Kingdom continues its drive toward Vision 2030 goals.
