Saudi Arabia is set to launch its first satellite dedicated to studying space climate, under NASA’s Artemis II mission, in a major step forward for the Kingdom’s growing space ambitions.

The Saudi Space Agency (SSA) has signed an executive agreement with NASA, marking a key milestone in scientific cooperation between the two nations. The satellite will collect vital data on solar activity and its impact on the Earth’s magnetosphere—research crucial to improving astronaut safety and enhancing the resilience of satellite communication systems.

This mission is a direct outcome of Saudi Arabia’s accession to the Artemis Accords in 2024, a multinational initiative committed to the peaceful exploration of the Moon, Mars, and beyond. The launch will support national objectives under Saudi Vision 2030, particularly in the areas of scientific advancement, space technology localization, and workforce development.

The agreement was signed during the official visit of U.S. President Donald J. Trump to Riyadh, reflecting the deepening strategic ties between the two countries in science and innovation.

Aligned with the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program (NIDLP), the mission aims to strengthen local content and capabilities in high-tech industries. It also marks a step toward establishing Saudi Arabia as a significant contributor to global space research.
