Diriyah Company completes projects to ensure uninterrupted power supply in its developments
Saudi Arabia’s Diriyah Company has completed two electricity substations to power its expansive developments in Diriyah and Wadi Safar, with a combined cost of SAR682 million ($181 million).
The SAR605 million bulk substation, with a capacity of 1707 MVA, will
support the initial phase of Diriyah’s development. It is set to power various
cultural, educational, retail, office, residential, and hospitality projects,
including Diriyah Square, the Qurain Cultural District, and the Northern
District.
In Wadi Safar, a 200 MVA primary substation was completed at a cost of SAR77
million. This facility will provide electricity to key developments, such as
the Royal Diriyah Equestrian & Polo Club and the Greg Norman-designed Wadi
Safar Golf Course.

Both projects were executed by Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), a publicly
traded utility provider. SEC will also implement two cabling contracts valued
at SAR316 million and SAR168 million for Diriyah and Wadi Safar, respectively.
Expanding Infrastructure for Vision 2030 Goals
The completion of these substations comes on the heels of significant
milestones in Diriyah’s development, including the groundbreaking of seven new
hotels in November 2024 and the unveiling of multi-billion-dollar projects in
the Northern and Qurain Cultural Districts.
As one of Saudi Arabia’s five flagship giga-projects backed by the Public
Investment Fund (PIF), Diriyah aims to host 50 million annual visitors by 2030,
contributing $18.6 billion directly to the Kingdom’s GDP.
