Neom accelerating work on THE LINE with new appointments
NEOM, the innovative and sustainable
region under development in northwest Saudi Arabia, has announced the
appointment of a distinguished group of global partners to lead the planning,
design, and engineering efforts for the first phase of THE LINE, the
ambitious urban development project set to redefine the future of cities.
The consortium, consisting of Delugan

NEOM’s partnership with these
world-leading experts marks a major milestone in the realization of THE LINE,
as the project establishes a sophisticated, integrated design ecosystem focused
on advanced methodologies for city planning and development. This collaboration
will lay the foundation for the next phase of design, which includes the
planning and design of the neighborhoods within Phase One, set to begin in
early 2025.
Denis Hickey, Chief Development
Officer of THE LINE, commented: “As construction of THE LINE
moves forward, we have forged a unique partnership that brings together the
world’s top city design and engineering expertise. This collaboration is
centered on innovation, aiming to change the way we approach the creation of
cities, forever. It aligns perfectly with NEOM’s bold vision to pioneer a new
era of urban living.”
Key
Appointments for Phase One
DMAA has been selected as the urban
designer for THE LINE, responsible for developing the masterplan for
Phase One. The design will challenge traditional urban planning models by
implementing a vertical city layout, one that maximizes space while integrating
nature and sustainability. DMAA will also support NEOM in maintaining the design
integrity of Phase One as neighborhood architects are appointed.

Gensler, the global design firm, has
been appointed as the city planning consultant for Phase One. Their leadership
will be essential in managing the coordination of city design, governance, and
key planning elements, including land use, planning policies, and design
compliance. Gensler will also serve as the architect for critical city
infrastructure such as transport hubs and public spaces.
Mott MacDonald joins the project as
the city infrastructure engineer, where it will oversee the design and
implementation of the city’s vertical and horizontal infrastructure systems.
The firm will focus on ensuring the efficiency, sustainability, and operability
of the city’s utilities and structures.
A
Vision for a Sustainable Future
THE LINE is being designed to address the world’s urban challenges,
creating a transformative and sustainable urban environment that integrates
seamlessly with nature. The city will be built without roads or cars, offering
a harmonious blend of modern urban living and abundant green spaces, with
unparalleled access to nature.

As part of NEOM’s broader vision,
work is already underway on the foundational infrastructure surrounding THE
LINE. More than 120 foundation piles are being driven into the ground each
week at the Phase One site, marking what is set to become the largest piling
operation in history. This ambitious scale reinforces THE LINE’s
commitment to innovation and sustainability, setting the stage for the creation
of the world’s most advanced city.
