Saudi Arabia’s Neom and KOFIC collaborate on new training initiative

Neom has announced new partnership with the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) to launch training initiatives for emerging filmmakers. The initiative, set to begin in December 2024, will be led by KOFIC’s Korean Academy of Film Arts, with experienced Korean filmmakers mentoring Saudi talent. Official details are forthcoming.

This announcement was made during a panel discussion at the Busan Asian Contents and Film Market, part of the ongoing Busan International Film Festival. The panel, moderated by Kim Young-woo, programmer for the Red Sea Film Festival, featured industry leaders including Ryan Ashore from Red Sea Labs, Rasha AlEmam, CEO of Yellow Camel Studios, and veteran Korean producer Seo Woo-sik.

During the discussion, AlEmam expressed enthusiasm about the readiness of Saudi filmmakers to learn and engage. “The Saudis are eager to learn and want to dive right into working on set. It’s a fertile environment for education, training, and workshops,” she stated.

Woo-sik highlighted the importance of finding common ground for future co-productions. “We need to take the time to understand each other's cultures and build trust. It’s crucial for both audiences,” he emphasized. He also recommended that Saudi talent travel to Korea to explore advancements in technology and graphic design.
