Saudi Arabia attains top position in in region in
UN Digital Government Services Index
Saudi Arabia has made a significant
leap in the United Nations' E-Government Development Index for 2024, climbing
25 places to secure the fourth spot globally in digital services. The Kingdom
now ranks first in the region and second among G20 nations, according to the
latest UN report released on Tuesday.
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia's capital,
ranked third out of 193 cities worldwide. The Kingdom's rapid advancement in
digital governance, achieving sixth place globally in this area, and seventh in
the e-participation index, underscores its progress in providing accessible and
efficient digital government services.

Abdullah Al-Swaha, Saudi Arabia’s
Minister of Communications and Information Technology and chairman of the
Digital Government Authority, credited the support of King Salman and Crown
Prince Mohammed bin Salman for this historic achievement. He emphasized that
this progress aligns with the goals of Vision 2030, the Kingdom's long-term
development strategy aimed at transforming its economy and positioning Saudi
Arabia as a global leader in the digital sphere.
Ahmed Alsuwaiyan, Governor of the
Digital Government Authority, highlighted that the Kingdom's rise in the
rankings reflects the leadership’s dedication to enhancing digital government
services. Vision 2030, launched in 2016, has played a key role in improving
various digital sectors. Since then, Saudi Arabia has advanced 53 places on the
Telecommunications Infrastructure Index and 31 places on the Human Capital
Index. The Kingdom also made an impressive 67-place jump on the Online Service
Index, securing fourth place globally for 2024.

The report further noted that Saudi
Arabia's digital government regulations have reached a maturity level of 100
percent. The Kingdom's commitment to open government data and its collaboration
with citizens and businesses have also contributed to its substantial rise, with
a 60-place improvement in e-participation and public consultation.
The UN’s E-Government Development
Index, published every two years, is a global benchmark that measures the
effectiveness of digital government reforms across member states, assessing
their impact on productivity, efficiency, and user experience.
