Dream of self-driving flying taxis materializing in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia has introduced the world's first self-driving
flying taxi, aimed at revolutionizing transportation for pilgrims and emergency
services.
Engineer Saleh Al Jasser, the Saudi Arabian Minister of
Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the
General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), unveiled the self-driving air taxi
trial at the holy sites. This groundbreaking initiative, witnessed by GACA
President Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, marks the first air taxi licensed by a civil
aviation authority and features vertical take-off capabilities.

The electric air taxi aims to enhance the comfort and
convenience of Hajj pilgrims, offering efficient transport between holy sites,
facilitating emergency travel, transporting medical equipment, and providing
logistical support for goods transportation.
Al Jasser highlighted that this initiative reflects the
ministry's commitment to adopting advanced transportation technologies and
eco-friendly models powered by artificial intelligence. These innovations are
in line with the National Transportation and Logistics Strategy, supporting the
sustainability goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

Al-Duailej remarked, "Today marks the activation of one
of the most important initiatives of the roadmap for enabling advanced air
mobility. The use of its modes, including the air taxi, reduces passenger
travel time in congested areas, particularly in emergencies, facilitates the
transportation of goods and medical supplies, and speeds up surveillance and
inspection tasks through drones."
