Diriyah Gate
Development Authority signs MoU with GEOSA to exchange geospatial information
The Diriyah Gate
Development Authority (DGDA) and the General Authority for Survey and
Geospatial Information (GEOSA) have
entered into a memorandum of understanding
(MoU) to enhance the exchange of geospatial information in Saudi Arabia. This
collaboration is designed to bolster the country's geospatial industry by
providing accurate geography and mapping data.
The primary objectives
of this agreement are to promote cooperation between the two organizations in
various areas, including data governance, the sharing of geospatial
information, and the exchange of technical expertise. Additionally, the MoU
seeks to facilitate collaboration in surveying and drone projects, technical
consultations, and training and development initiatives.
Mohammed bin Yahya
Al-Sayel, President of GEOSA, expressed his satisfaction with the MoU,
highlighting its significance in DGDA's role of regulating the survey and
geospatial information sector within the Kingdom and advancing its related
activities. This collaboration aligns with DGDA's commitment to forming
strategic partnerships with various agencies to support the objectives outlined
in Saudi Vision 2030.
The MoU was jointly
signed by Al-Sayel and Jerry Inzerillo, the CEO of DGDA, underscoring their commitment
to the partnership. According to the terms of the agreement, the map of Saudi
Arabia produced by GEOSA will be officially recognized as a reliable source.
Furthermore, the delineation of international borders, administrative
jurisdictions, and geographical locations within Saudi Arabia will be based on
this official map.
The MoU also
encourages DGDA to utilize the National Geospatial Reference as a unified
source for all geospatial data. As part of the collaboration, DGDA will have
access to the products and services offered by the Continuous Operation
Reference Station Network and the National Geospatial Platform. Additionally,
DGDA will provide support to GEOSA in terms of data governance, efficient
information sharing, and the enhancement of national geospatial security. They
will also collaborate on the development and implementation of the National
Geospatial Strategy.
Al-Sayel further
emphasized that the MoU encompasses a wide range of cooperative activities,
including national training, capacity building, the promotion of products and
projects, knowledge sharing, technical consultations, support for ongoing
research endeavors, and the utilization of GEOSA's geospatial information as a
technical and consultative resource, particularly in the context of surveying
and regulatory frameworks.
