Prince William introduced to birthplace of first Saudi state
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin
Salman welcomed Britain’s Prince William
to Saudi Arabia with a visit to the historic At-Turaif District in Diriyah on
Monday, marking a key moment in the Prince of Wales’ first official trip to the
Kingdom.
During the visit, Prince William
toured the At-Turaif UNESCO World
Heritage Site — the birthplace of the first Saudi state — accompanied by
the Crown Prince. He was introduced to the distinctive Najdi architectural
style that defines the site and explored landmark structures including the
palaces of early Saudi leaders, such as Salwa Palace, which served as the
administrative centre of the first Saudi state.
The visit comes as part of a
three-day official engagement in Riyadh aimed at strengthening ties between the
United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia, with discussions expected to cover areas of
economic cooperation, cultural exchange and shared interests. William was
welcomed on arrival by senior Saudi officials, including Prince Mohammed bin
Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of the Riyadh Region, and was joined
by the British Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Stephen Hitchen.
