British Safety Council awards Sword of Honor to Diriyah Company

Diriyah Company has earned international recognition after being awarded the Sword of Honor by the British Safety Council, following its achievement of a Five-Star rating in a comprehensive occupational health and safety audit. The distinction makes Diriyah Company the first developer in the region to receive both honors.

The awards reflect the company’s systematic integration of occupational health and safety across all stages of its operations, from planning and construction to long-term management. Diriyah Company oversees an average workforce of approximately 50,000 people and manages more than 2,500 heavy-duty machines across its development sites.

Rigorous Safety Assessment

The British Safety Council’s Five-Star Audit is an in-depth evaluation that benchmarks an organization’s health and safety systems against international best practices. For Diriyah Company, the audit reviewed policies, procedures, and operational controls, with a focus on how safety requirements are implemented on-site and embedded within management frameworks.

Auditors assessed more than 50 core elements of the company’s safety management system. The process included interviews with senior leadership, employees, and key stakeholders, as well as site inspections to verify that documented procedures are consistently applied in daily operations.

The Sword of Honor and Five-Star rating represent the British Safety Council’s highest levels of international recognition for health and safety excellence. The achievement underscores Diriyah Company’s commitment to safeguarding people, ensuring operational integrity, and supporting long-term sustainability across its large-scale development program.

Leadership Commitment and Safety Performance

Group Chief Executive Officer Jerry Inzerillo said occupational health and safety is treated as a central pillar of Diriyah Company’s operations rather than a compliance requirement. He noted that the recognition reflects the company’s focus on advanced safety systems, effective risk management, and robust emergency preparedness.

Diriyah Company reported a Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) of 0.017 across its ongoing infrastructure projects, which it described as evidence of the effectiveness of its safety framework and its commitment to meeting international construction standards while protecting its workforce.

Supporting Vision 2030 and Economic Growth

The company linked its safety performance to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 objectives, citing contributions to safe employment practices, efficient project delivery, and strong governance over a multi-year development program.

Diriyah is expected to deliver significant economic benefits, including a direct contribution of approximately SAR70 billion to Saudi Arabia’s GDP, the creation of more than 180,000 jobs, and housing for around 100,000 residents.
