These milestones reinforce AlUla’s role as a leading destination for stargazing and night-sky preservation

AlUla Manara and KACST collaborate to conduct astronomical experiment

The AlUla Manara team, in collaboration with experts from the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), will conduct an interactive astronomical experiment on Monday, offering visitors a unique opportunity to engage with the wonders of the night sky.

Scheduled for 5:15 p.m. in AlUla governorate, the event is part of AlUla Manara’s ongoing educational initiatives designed to promote astronomical awareness and share scientific knowledge. Through live observation sessions, attendees will have the chance to participate in hands-on experiments, guided by specialists using advanced astronomical tools and techniques.

The event is set to enrich the region’s cultural and scientific landscape, providing both locals and tourists with an immersive, educational experience.

In December 2025, the Royal Commission for AlUla announced that the Sharaan and Wadi Nakhlah reserves had officially received Dark Sky designation from DarkSky International, recognizing them as globally protected Dark Sky Places. This designation adds to AlUla’s growing reputation as a center for astronomical tourism, joining over 250 sites worldwide.

This recognition builds on AlUla’s 2024 achievement, when AlUla Manara and the Al-Gharameel Nature Reserve became the first locations in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region to be named Dark Sky Parks.
