‘Assassin’s Creed Mirage’ to receive new story outline featuring AlUla city of Saudi Arabia

Ubisoft has announced that Assassin’s Creed Mirage, its 2023 Baghdad-set adventure, will receive new story content later this year. The free update will take players to AlUla, an ancient oasis city in present-day Saudi Arabia.

The reveal came during the NGSC 2025 event in Riyadh, where Ubisoft confirmed that the expansion will include a new story chapter, fresh missions, and gameplay improvements. All content will be available at no additional cost.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot also suggested bigger plans for the region, hinting that Mirage “is not the end” of the publisher’s Middle East partnerships. Reports earlier this year had already linked Ubisoft to discussions with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund about potential Mirage expansions — speculation that now seems validated.

The AlUla update will unlock new maps, levels, and characters once players finish the main game. With its sandstone formations, ancient ruins, and 7,000 years of history, the UNESCO World Heritage site feels like a natural fit for the series’ signature stealth and parkour gameplay.

Released in 2023, Assassin’s Creed Mirage marked a return to the franchise’s stealth-driven roots after the expansive Viking saga of Valhalla. Initially planned as an expansion centered on Basim — a key figure in Valhalla’s finale — the project grew into a standalone title developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux.

The new content may also revisit unresolved storylines. Fans will recall Mirage’s hidden post-credits scene, a mystery Ubisoft never fully explained. The upcoming missions could finally provide answers.

The update arrives as Ubisoft continues to expand its portfolio, with Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ first DLC, Claws of Awaji, launching on September 16. Both Mirage and Shadows are being supported by Ubisoft Bordeaux, keeping players engaged with fresh adventures.

Fans can expect to explore 9th-century AlUla before the end of 2025, with Ubisoft promising more details in the months ahead.
