Diriyah company awards $1.53 contract to Chinese company to build arena block

Diriyah Company has awarded a SAR 5.75 billion (USD 1.53 billion) contract to China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd for the construction of the Arena Block — a major district within the Diriyah development featuring the multi-purpose Diriyah Arena, three mixed-use office buildings, and a large-scale parking facility.

A New Landmark for Entertainment and Culture
Covering 74,000 square metres, the Diriyah Arena is designed to be a highly adaptable indoor venue with a 20,000-seat capacity. It will host a wide range of events including concerts, esports competitions, exhibitions, sporting events, and live performances, aiming to draw both local and international audiences.

Architecturally, the arena blends modern functionality with traditional Najdi design, reflecting the natural geology and cultural heritage of Diriyah.

Office and Mixed-Use Expansion
Alongside the arena, the development will include three mixed-use office buildings spanning 114,000 square metres. These buildings are designed by acclaimed global firm John McAslan + Partners and will add commercial and administrative depth to the growing district.

Part of a Larger Vision
The Diriyah Arena Block is a key feature of the broader Diriyah gigaproject — one of the Public Investment Fund’s flagship initiatives alongside NEOM, Qiddiya, Red Sea, and Roshn. The 14-square-kilometre development is set to become home to 100,000 residents, create over 178,000 jobs, and attract nearly 50 million annual visitors.

The area will also feature more than 30 luxury hotels, world-class dining, purpose-built pavilions, and major cultural assets such as the Royal Diriyah Opera House, nine museums, and several academies — all paying homage to the At-Turaif UNESCO World Heritage Site through Najdi-inspired architecture.
