Topian, NEOM’s pioneering food company, has achieved a significant milestone with the inauguration of its advanced greenhouse in Oxagon, the industrial hub on the Red Sea coast. Designed as a model for climate-resilient agriculture, this cutting-edge facility highlights the potential of innovative technology to revolutionize food production in arid regions, enhancing food security while reducing environmental impact.

High-Tech Innovation in Oxagon

Spanning four hectares (9.9 acres), the greenhouse is situated in Oxagon Innovation Bay. It features state-of-the-art systems that optimize crop quality and maximize yields, producing approximately 4,000 tons of fruits and vegetables annually.

A Vision for Resilient Food Systems
Dr. Juan Carlos Motamayor, CEO of Topian, underscored the significance of the project:

“By leveraging advanced climate control and predictive AI models, we can efficiently cultivate crops, addressing the challenges of climate change not just for Saudi Arabia but for arid regions worldwide.”

Vishal Wanchoo, CEO of Oxagon, highlighted the broader implications:

The facility integrates advanced automation to regulate climate conditions, assess crop health, and enhance cooling efficiency—critical for arid environments. Future phases will utilize NEOM’s photovoltaic network, further aligning with sustainability goals.

Initial trials will focus on lettuce, tomatoes, and strawberries, with scientists assessing attributes like taste and texture under controlled conditions. The aim is to provide year-round, high-quality produce for NEOM’s residents and hospitality sector.

Dutch horticultural technology leader Van der Hoeven collaborated on the project, bringing decades of expertise in innovative greenhouse design.
