Saudi company Topian inaugurates advanced greenhouse in Neom’s Oxagon
Topian, NEOM’s pioneering food company, has achieved a significant milestone
with the inauguration of its advanced greenhouse in Oxagon, the industrial hub
on the Red Sea coast. Designed as a model for climate-resilient agriculture,
this cutting-edge facility highlights the potential of innovative technology to
revolutionize food production in arid regions, enhancing food security while
reducing environmental impact.
High-Tech
Innovation in Oxagon
Spanning four hectares (9.9 acres), the greenhouse is situated in Oxagon
Innovation Bay. It features state-of-the-art systems that optimize crop quality
and maximize yields, producing approximately 4,000 tons of fruits and
vegetables annually.

A Vision for Resilient Food Systems
Dr. Juan Carlos Motamayor, CEO of Topian, underscored the significance of the
project:
“By leveraging advanced climate control and predictive AI models, we can
efficiently cultivate crops, addressing the challenges of climate change not
just for Saudi Arabia but for arid regions worldwide.”
Vishal Wanchoo, CEO of Oxagon, highlighted the broader implications:
“This pilot represents a bold step toward a fully localized ‘farm-to-table’
supply chain. It demonstrates how clean technology can transform industries and
drive sustainable solutions.”
Technology-Driven
Agriculture
The facility integrates advanced automation to regulate climate conditions,
assess crop health, and enhance cooling efficiency—critical for arid
environments. Future phases will utilize NEOM’s photovoltaic network, further
aligning with sustainability goals.

Initial trials will focus on lettuce, tomatoes, and strawberries, with
scientists assessing attributes like taste and texture under controlled
conditions. The aim is to provide year-round, high-quality produce for NEOM’s
residents and hospitality sector.
Dutch horticultural technology leader Van der Hoeven collaborated on the
project, bringing decades of expertise in innovative greenhouse design.
A
Global Perspective on Sustainable Farming
Topian’s initiative aligns with global efforts to tackle food insecurity and
climate challenges. Companies like AeroFarms and Plenty are advancing similar
high-tech solutions, from vertical farming in urban areas to AI-driven
greenhouse systems. By tailoring these innovations to the unique needs of arid
climates, Topian’s greenhouse in NEOM represents a pivotal step toward shaping
the future of agriculture.
