Saudi Arabia taking steps to promote digital economy
Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Eng.
Abdullah Al-Swaha, hosted Amazon CEO Andy Jassy and Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Executive Vice President Matt Garman at the ministry’s headquarters in Riyadh
on Tuesday. The meeting aimed to strengthen the strategic partnership between
Saudi Arabia and Amazon.
Key topics of discussion included advancing cloud infrastructure development
and leveraging artificial intelligence to drive digital innovation, which
aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader goals outlined in Vision 2030. The leaders
also explored the latest breakthroughs in AI and other emerging technologies,
along with efforts to nurture local talent and enhance Saudi Arabia’s position
as a regional leader in tech innovation.

These initiatives are designed to bolster the Kingdom’s role as a driving
force behind the growth of the digital economy and technological advancements
in the region.
In a noteworthy development, AWS had previously announced a $5.3 billion
investment at LEAP 2024 to establish advanced cloud regions in Saudi Arabia,
significantly enhancing the cloud services available across the Kingdom.
