McLaren Racing has announced that 19-year-old Ella Lloyd has joined its Driver Development programme, where she will participate in Formula E's inaugural Women’s Test in Valencia.

Lloyd, hailing from Wales, began her competitive racing career in 2022 in the Ginetta Junior Championship, where she scored points in 15 out of 25 races. The following year, she competed in the Ginetta GT Championship, earning the vice-champion title.

In early 2024, Ella excelled in the Formula Winter Series, claiming the Female Driver Trophy multiple times. She also competed in British F4, finishing the season with three second-place results, one third-place finish, and numerous points. Additionally, she participated as a Wild Card driver during the Singapore F1 Academy weekend, scoring points in both races.

As part of the McLaren Driver Development programme, led by Stephanie Carlin, Lloyd will join the team’s talent pipeline, aimed at helping drivers advance toward Formula 1, IndyCar, and Formula E.

Her participation in the Women’s Test for the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team is scheduled for November 7, 2024, in Valencia, Spain. This test is part of the Official Pre-Season Testing for the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and provides an opportunity to gain experience with the new GEN3 Evo car.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the McLaren Driver Development programme as the team’s F1 Academy driver in 2025,” said Lloyd. “It’s an honor to drive for a team with such a rich racing history and a commitment to developing talent.
