Saudi Arabia: Red Sea Global promoting regenerative tourism 

Red Sea Global (RSG), the visionary developer behind the regenerative tourism destinations The Red Sea and Amaala, has released its fourth Annual Sustainability Report. This report highlights RSG's and its subsidiaries' ongoing commitments and significant progress toward Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals.

RSG: Pioneering Responsible Development on a Global Scale

Saudi-based Red Sea Global (RSG), known for its innovative approach to regenerative tourism, has unveiled its latest Annual Sustainability Report, showcasing key milestones and progress in ESG initiatives.

The 2023 report underscores RSG's commitment to achieving a net conservation benefit of 30% by 2040, reflecting the company's dedication to setting new benchmarks in global responsible development. Covering sustainability performance from January 1 to December 31, 2023, the report emphasizes RSG's focus on accountability and transparency.

RSG's efforts span across environmental sustainability, social empowerment, and governance, with notable advancements in all areas.

Key Highlights from the 2023 Report:

  • Installation of 760,000 photovoltaic solar panels to power the first phase of The Red Sea, which opened in 2023.
  • Establishment as the largest off-grid charging infrastructure operator in Saudi Arabia, with 150 electric vehicle charging stations and 82 electric vehicles.
  • Environmental interventions, including nurturing over five million plants at the Red Sea Landscape Nursery and transplanting 600,000 mangrove seedlings to four sites.
  • Prevention of 46,350 tonnes of CO2 emissions through various carbon reduction initiatives.
  • Launch of the ‘Coral Commitment’ to protect and regenerate corals in the Red Sea, with pioneering work in coral cultivation by marine scientists.
  • Introduction of the Jewar app, a platform for community engagement, and a volunteering program with more than 200 participants.
  • Recruitment of over 3,300 new employees, 50+ Elite Graduates, and the delivery of nearly 74,000 training hours.
  • Achievement of the highest-ever Platinum LEED for Cities and Communities certification score for The Red Sea Master Plan Phase 1.

John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global, expressed confidence in RSG's progress: "Our latest Annual Sustainability Report shows that we are not just talking about setting new standards in responsible development—we are achieving them. We are on track to deliver a net conservation benefit of 30% by 2040 around our destinations. Our work in renewable energy, land and marine conservation, social development, and clean mobility proves that tourism development can be done differently. Looking Ahead

In 2023, The Red Sea welcomed its first guests, with three hotels now operational. Red Sea International Airport has been hosting domestic flights since September 2023, with international flights commencing in April 2024, including a twice-weekly route between The Red Sea and Dubai International. The second destination, Thuwal Private Retreat, is set to open soon, and AMAALA is on track to welcome its first guests in 2025, with eight resorts, Corallium, and the iconic Yacht Club completing Phase 1 of Triple Bay.
