Siemens unveils advanced automation solutions for the Port of Neom

Siemens has introduced advanced automation solutions at the Port of NEOM in Saudi Arabia, integrating Mevea's Digital Twins and simulation technologies for crane operations.

The initiative involves deploying 10 automated Ship-to-Shore (STS) gantry cranes and 30 automated electric Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes at the Port of Oxagon, NEOM's newly designed industrial city. This development marks a significant step towards making the port one of the world's most technologically advanced, efficient, and
sustainable.

The expansion of the Port of NEOM includes enhancements such as a new container terminal and marine services basin, aimed at accommodating the largest cargo vessels globally.

Sean Kelly, Managing Director of the Port of NEOM, emphasized the critical role of crane automation in achieving unprecedented throughput velocity. He highlighted the partnership with Siemens and Mevea as pivotal in implementing cutting-edge technology to enhance terminal operations productivity.

Douwe Wagenaar, Manager of Siemens' crane department, highlighted the benefits of Mevea's technology in facilitating rapid deployment and enhancing productivity for automated quay and yard cranes at the Port of NEOM. He noted that Mevea's simulators, leveraging unique physics-based Digital Twin technology, provide essential accuracy and functionality crucial for autonomous system development and advanced operator training.
