Saudi Arabia renames Duba Port as ‘Port of NEOM’
Saudi government has changed the name of Duba Port to Port of
Neom to make it globally competitive.
It is the primary seaport of entry to the northwest of the
oil-rich kingdom and its management was transferred from the Saudi Ports
Authority to NEOM in 2022.
After coming under the control of Neom, the port’s capabilities
have been expanded to meet the rising volume of cargo coming into the Saudi
futuristic city.
According to NEOM CEO Nadhmi Al-Nasr, the Port of NEOM will be crucial
to the continued commercial competitiveness, economic diversification, and
maritime trade vision of Saudi Arabia.
He said investments worth SR7.5 billion ($2 billion) have been
made in the port till now, and its first advanced terminal will be opened in
2025.
Sean Kelly, managing director at the Port of NEOM said the port will play a key role in overall build, operations, and economic ambitions of Neom.
Upon opening, the port will function at net-zero levels by using 100 percent
renewable energy for its operations.
