Red Sea Global committed to regenerative tourism: Dr. Maryam
Ali Ficociello
Dr. Maryam Ali Ficociello, the Group Chief Governance
Officer of Red Sea Global, is at the forefront of addressing climate challenges
and promoting sustainable governance at COP28. Red Sea Global, a Saudi-based
multi-project developer, is committed to regenerative tourism in its ambitious
projects, The Red Sea and Amaala.
While Red Sea Global, formed in 2018, has made remarkable progress
in developing regenerative tourism destinations, it stands out for its
environmental consciousness in a region known for large-scale construction
projects that might not be environmentally friendly.
Red
Sea Global's visionary approach to sustainable tourism and hospitality
When completed by 2030, The Red Sea and Amaala projects,
located along Saudi Arabia's northwestern coast, will feature 50 resorts,
around 8,000 hotel rooms, and 1,000 residential properties—all powered by 100%
solar energy and served by electric transportation.
Dr. Maryam Ali Ficociello emphasizes the commitment of Red
Sea Global to deliver a 30% net conservation benefit by 2040, focusing on
mangroves, seagrass, coral reefs, and land vegetation. Under her leadership,
Red Sea Global became the first company in Saudi Arabia to achieve ISO 37000
for good governance.
At COP28, Dr. Ficociello highlights the importance of
embedding climate governance and compliance into core business strategies. She
sees the need to reconcile economic growth with environmental stewardship,
especially in a region historically dependent on oil. Dr. Ficociello stresses
the importance of innovations in governance and risk management to navigate the
transition to greener energy sources and the development of robust regulatory
frameworks for sustainable practices.
Saudi
Arabia becoming a magnet of entertainment and tourism
Regarding the UAE's role in COP28, Dr. Ficociello commends
the country's journey from traditional energy economies to renewable and
sustainable practices. She views initiatives like Masdar City as evidence of
the UAE's commitment to sustainable development, providing a platform to
showcase the region's efforts in sustainable transformation.
Dr. Maryam Ali Ficociello's leadership in sustainable
governance aligns with the global push for concrete actions in climate change
mitigation, making her a prominent voice at COP28.
