Neom appoints Source Machinery for early works on Shusha Island

Neom, the ambitious project in Saudi Arabia, has selected local contractor Source Machinery to execute the initial groundwork on Shusha Island. This contract is a part of the broader plan to develop infrastructure across 12 islands within the Neom project.

Situated off the Red Sea coast of the kingdom, Shusha Island is set to feature the world's largest coral garden, a marina, hotels, villas, a beach club, a museum, and a research center.

Earlier, Greek contractor Archirodon had been appointed by Neom to handle the preliminary infrastructure development on Shusha Island.

In August, Neom organized a briefing session for contractors to outline the development blueprint for Shusha Island, with participation from local and international contractors.

The Shusha Island masterplan is being designed by Spanish consultant Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura, with project management consultancy provided by US-based Aecom. The island's assets are categorized into three packages: GC1, GC2, and GC3.

GC1:

GC1 encompasses three assets: Hipe Tower, Grotto Entrance, and Sunset Pools.

Hipe Tower is a towering structure at 190 meters with a built-up area of approximately 50,000 square meters.

Grotto Entrance is a fully excavated cave inside the island's cliffs, standing at 65 meters in height, leading through the sea to the top of Hipe Tower.

The Sunset Pools are expansive pools situated at the edge of the development, offering panoramic views of the Red Sea.

GC2:

GC2 includes the Village Cluster, the museum and research center, Marina Dive Boutique Resort, and a utility hub.

The Village Cluster comprises residential units, retail facilities, support infrastructure for King Abdullah University of Science & Technology, and a canopy.

Marina Dive Boutique Resort will feature around 59 rooms, in addition to retail and food and beverage (F&B) outlets.

GC3:

GC3 encompasses the Canyon, Mindfulness Hotel, a beach club, landscaping, villas, and utilities.

The Canyon will serve as a recreational hub, offering activities such as kayaking, rafting, climbing, ziplining, vertical drops, and paddle boarding.

The Mindfulness Hotel, also known as the Mindfulness Boutique Resort, will provide approximately 55 hotel rooms, along with retail and F&B facilities.
