Saudi NEOM and the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) join hands to
nurture filmmaking talent
NEOM Media Industries and the Korean Film Council (KOFIC)
have unveiled a collaborative effort aimed at nurturing burgeoning talent
within the film industry. This partnership involves the Korean Academy of Film
Arts (KAFA), South Korea's premier national film school under KOFIC's auspices,
providing comprehensive training across various facets of filmmaking for the
next generation of filmmakers at NEOM.
KAFA's training and development initiatives will cater to
both aspiring and experienced film and television content creators, preparing
them for projects on local, regional, and international scales. The
collaboration encompasses a diverse array of training disciplines, including
workshops, masterclasses, and programs designed for various filmmaking roles, such
as producers, directors, screenwriters, cinematographers, sound designers, and
more.

The inaugural program is slated to commence in the first
quarter of 2024 with a directing masterclass and workshop, scheduled to take
place at NEOM's Media Hub.
Wayne Borg, Managing Director of Media Industries,
Entertainment, and Culture at NEOM, lauded the partnership as a
"significant opportunity for mutual growth and enhanced
collaboration." He emphasized that harnessing South Korea's global film
achievements, along with the invaluable insights from this partnership, holds
the potential to elevate production standards, expedite ecosystem development,
expand international market reach, foster talent, facilitate co-productions,
and usher in a new era of storytelling. Borg noted that this collaboration
aligns perfectly with NEOM's commitment to nurturing talent as a core element
of their strategic vision, with the goal of cultivating a diverse and highly
skilled workforce.

Park Ki-yong, Chair of KOFIC, expressed delight at the
collaboration with NEOM in nurturing Saudi filmmakers for the future of global
cinema. He anticipates that this partnership will pave the way for greater

the future.
Both South Korea and Saudi Arabia have witnessed a surge in
talented young filmmakers who are leaving a significant imprint on the
international media landscape.
