Saudi Arabia launches the Esports World Cup 2024
On October 24, 2023, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of
Saudi Arabia unveiled a significant initiative, introducing the Esports World
Cup, which is slated to be an annual event commencing in the summer of 2024.
This global tournament, hailed as the largest of its kind
worldwide, is set to not only bolster the gaming and esports sector but also
strengthen Saudi Arabia's position as a prominent international hub for
esports.

The launch of the Esports World Cup represents a pivotal
step toward realizing the goals outlined in Saudi Arabia's National Gaming and
Esports Strategy. This strategic roadmap aims to increase the sector's
contribution to the nation's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by over SAR 50
billion ($13.3 billion) by 2030 and create 39,000 new employment opportunities.
In addition to the tournament, Crown Prince Mohammed bin
Salman announced the establishment of the Esports World Cup Foundation, a nonprofit
organization focused on fostering collaboration among various stakeholders in
the esports industry.
These groundbreaking announcements took place during
"The New Global Sports Conference" held in the Saudi capital, as
stated in a press release.
Saudi
Arabia to increase cooperation with China in esports
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman shared his vision, saying,
"The Esports World Cup is the natural next step in Saudi Arabia's journey
to become the premier global hub for gaming and esports, offering an unmatched
esports experience that pushes the boundaries of the industry."
He underlined the multifaceted benefits of this initiative,
stating, "The competition will enhance our progress toward realizing the
Vision 2030 objectives of diversifying the economy, growing the tourism sector,
creating new jobs in various industries, and providing world-class
entertainment for citizens, residents, and visitors alike."
This ambitious endeavor underscores Saudi Arabia's
dedication to becoming a global leader in the esports arena.
