New tug built for Saudi Arabian Red Sea Development

Turkish shipbuilder Tor Group has recently completed the construction of a brand-new tug, marking its third tug sale in the past year. The tug, named Abdul 11, has been acquired by the managing authority responsible for a new port city development in the Tabuk Province of Saudi Arabia, situated along the Red Sea coast as part of the Saudi Arabia Vision 2030 initiative.

Abdul 11, a 394-gross-tonnage tugboat, measures 30 meters in length with a beam of 11 meters. Equipped with a fore deck towing winch and boasting an impressive bollard pull capacity of 65 tonnes, the tug was built in Turkey by Tor Group. It recently embarked on its journey to Neom, the urban area planned for northwest Tabuk on the Red Sea coast, reachable via the Suez Canal, as per automatic identification system data. The naval architecture for this tugboat was provided by MacDuff Ship Design.

This sale underscores Tor Group's growing reputation as a prominent builder of tugs and other workboats. The company's chief executive, Kemal Torlak, expressed their commitment to innovation and sustainability in the workboat newbuild market. Torlak also mentioned the near-completion of their new facility for in-house builds and the success of their design, equipment, and supervisory package for newbuilds in third-party yards.

The acquisition of Abdul 11 is a significant development in support of the ambitious Neom project, contributing to the Saudi Arabia Vision 2030 goals for the region's expansion and development.
