NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC) appoints Wesam Y.
Alghamdi as new CEO
Nadhmi Al Nasr, Chairman of NEOM Green Hydrogen Company
(NGHC), has announced the appointment of a new CEO following the successful
financial closure of the world's largest green hydrogen plant. David Edmondson,
the current CEO, will be returning to the US-based Air Products Company as part
of a planned leadership transition. Edmondson will continue to serve as CEO
until the end of the year to ensure a seamless transfer of responsibilities,
after which he will be succeeded by Wesam Y. Alghamdi at NGHC.
Starting from January 1, 2024, David Edmondson will rejoin
Air Products, where he will continue to play a pivotal role in the development
of Air Products' green hydrogen strategy to support the energy transition
market.

Green Hydrogen Co. explores investment opportunities in MENA region
During his tenure at NGHC, Edmondson played a crucial role
in the development of the green hydrogen plant in collaboration with NGHC
shareholders, including Acwa Power, Air Products, and NEOM, leading to the
establishment of the company. He took on the position of CEO in July 2021,
overseeing project financing and the initial company build-out. NGHC
acknowledges his significant contributions in developing human capital
capabilities in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030 and successfully concluding
all project agreements. Under his leadership, NGHC achieved full financial
closure on the plant in May, with a total investment value of $8.4 billion,
which included $6.1 billion in non-recourse financing from 23 local, regional,
and international banks and financial institutions.
Wesam Y. Alghamdi, who will succeed Edmondson, joins NGHC
this month with over 25 years of cross-functional senior leadership experience,
including engineering, operations, and project management in various industry
segments with Maaden, Sabic, and Shell. An alumnus of King Fahd University of
Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Alghamdi has a strong track record in strategic
planning and technical execution, making him instrumental in leading the
company's future growth.
NEOM
Green Hydrogen Co (NGHC) chief confident to commence operations in 2026
Nadhmi Al-Nasr, NEOM Chairman and CEO, expressed, "With
the full financial closure on the plant, we are a significant step closer to
revolutionizing the global energy market through the production of green
hydrogen at scale. The next two years at NGHC will focus on completing the
construction of the giga-scale facility for the operational phase of the
project."
Situated at Oxagon in Saudi Arabia's northwestern region,
NGHC's mega-plant is an equal joint venture between Acwa Power, Air Products,
and NEOM. When operational by the end of 2026, the plant will integrate up to 4GW
of solar and wind energy to produce approximately 600 tonnes per day of
carbon-free hydrogen, specifically in the form of green ammonia. Air Products
holds an exclusive 30-year off-take agreement for all the green ammonia
produced at the facility, which will be used in transportation and industrial
sectors worldwide. This agreement will unlock the economic potential of
renewable energy throughout the entire value chain.
