Sport climbing included
in second edition of the Neom Beach Games
Sport climbing has
been included in the program for the second edition of the Neom Beach Games,
alongside triathlon, beach soccer, 3x3 basketball, and mountain biking, as
announced by organizers.
Neom, an ongoing
construction project in the north-west of Saudi Arabia with an estimated cost
of $500 billion, is a key component of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to
diversify the country's economy and reduce its dependence on oil while striving
to establish itself as a sports destination.
The resort of Trojena,
which has controversially been awarded the 2029 Asian Winter Games, is part of
the Neom project.
The inaugural Neom
Beach Games took place last year, and four sports have been retained for this
year's edition, with kitesurfing being replaced by sport climbing.
The Super League
Triathlon season's grand finale is scheduled to kick off the event on October
21, followed by a beach soccer tournament from October 25 to 28.
A men's International
Basketball Federation 3x3 Challenger tournament will be held from November 2 to
4, followed by the Titan Desert Saudi Arabia from November 14 to 17.
The Beach Games will
conclude with an International Federation of Sport Climbing Masters event from
November 22 to 24.
Over 800 athletes and staff members are expected to participate in the Neom Beach Games, supported by a volunteer program featuring 50 participants. Jan Paterson, Neom's managing director of sport, expressed excitement about the Games and their alignment with the goal of becoming a natural home for global sports events. She also highlighted the inclusion of sport climbing as an exciting addition to this year's event.
