Saudi Crown Prince heads cabinet meeting in NEOM

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, assumed the role of chairman during a cabinet session held in NEOM on Tuesday. During this session, a series of agreements spanning rail, energy, and defense were reached, as reported by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Within the meeting, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman conveyed his gratitude to the leaders of friendly nations for their warm wishes on the occasion of Saudi Arabia's 93rd National Day.

Throughout the session, the Cabinet was briefed on the outcomes of the Kingdom's participation in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 78), along with various multilateral meetings conducted on its sidelines. These discussions highlighted Saudi Arabia's dedication to achieving sustainable development goals and addressing global challenges while emphasizing its role in managing regional crises, bolstering security, and fostering global peace.

Minister of Media, Salman bin Yousef al-Dosari, spoke to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) after the session, highlighting Saudi Arabia's peace-building efforts. These efforts are conducted in collaboration with the Arab League and the European Union, with support from Egypt and Jordan. The Cabinet expressed optimism that these endeavors would contribute to stability and peace in the Middle East, with a focus on establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

The Cabinet reaffirmed the Kingdom's commitment, as expressed during the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, to support international cooperation in the use of nuclear technologies for the benefit of humanity. Furthermore, the importance of implementing provisions outlined in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) to work toward a nuclear-free world, especially in the Middle East, was emphasized.

The Cabinet extended a warm welcome to the inclusion of Saudi Arabia's Uruq Bani Ma'arid Reserve in the UNESCO World Heritage List, along with six other Saudi sites celebrating the Kingdom's rich cultural heritage and natural diversity.

Among various items on its agenda, the Cabinet made several significant decisions, including authorizing the Minister of Energy (or a deputy) to engage in discussions with Finland regarding a draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of energy. Additionally, the Minister of Defense (or a deputy) was authorized to discuss a draft agreement between Saudi Arabia and the Kyrgyz Republic for defense cooperation.

The Cabinet also approved the establishment of the Saudi-Algerian Supreme Coordination Council and authorized the Minister of Culture (or a deputy) to engage in discussions with Thailand on a draft memorandum of understanding for cultural cooperation between the Ministry of Culture of Saudi Arabia and the Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Thailand.

Furthermore, the Cabinet approved an agreement between the governments of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait concerning the railway link project connecting the two GCC nations. Discussions were also authorized with Qatar regarding draft memorandums of understanding covering digital government, competitiveness, Houbara conservation, seawater desalination, and an executive program in the field of consumer protection.
