Saudi Arabia proposes Neom as host for the 2034 FIFA World Cup
Saudi Arabia, set to host the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup, appears
to have shifted its focus from co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Greece
and Egypt to independently presenting a proposal to host the prestigious
sporting event in 2034.
According to reports in The Times, the proposed venues for the
2034 FIFA World Cup would be situated in various high-altitude locations within
the expansive Neom mega-project, located in the northeastern part of the
country, in the Tabuk province. This region also encompasses the Trojena ski
resort, which has already secured hosting rights for the 2029 Winter Games.
Saudi
Arabia looking forward to host FIFA World Cup in 2034
Over recent years, Saudi Arabia has made substantial investments
in sports, particularly in football, including the acquisition of some of the
world's top players. The nation's Public Investment Fund, which also holds a
significant stake in Newcastle United in the UK, has been actively supporting
the development of Neom. This ambitious project includes the futuristic
megalopolis known as "The Line," a sprawling city spanning 170
kilometers in length. These efforts reflect Saudi Arabia's commitment to
becoming a prominent player on the global football stage.
