Red Sea Global installs
over 750,000 photovoltaic panels at The Red Sea destination
Red Sea Global (RSG),
the visionary force driving The Red Sea and Amaala destinations, continues to
pioneer environmentally responsible practices at the forefront of its ethos.
In a resolute pursuit
of this mission, RSG proudly announces the completion of a monumental solar
farm installation as part of phase one for The Red Sea destination. An
impressive assembly of more than 750,000 photovoltaic panels now graces the
landscape, a testament to RSG's dedication to powering the first 16 hotels,
alongside retail and entertainment venues, and all vital infrastructure using
renewable energy.
John Pagano, CEO of
Red Sea Global, remarked, "We committed to embracing a novel approach from
the outset, and establishing the world's largest destination exclusively
powered by renewable sources was a pivotal facet of that commitment. This
achievement marks a significant juncture as we finalize the deployment of the
five solar farms requisite for phase one of The Red Sea. It propels our vision
of an environment illuminated by the sun's energy, both day and night, one step
closer to fruition."
Complementing this
landmark installation, RSG is concurrently erecting the planet's largest
battery storage facility, boasting a staggering 1,200 MWh capacity. This
strategic move empowers the destination to operate autonomously, free from the
national grid's reliance, while drawing upon its self-generated solar energy.
In alignment with its overarching dedication to sustainability and
regeneration, both The Red Sea and Amaala are unwaveringly committed to
realizing the ambitions outlined in Saudi Vision 2030. These ambitions are
fueled by an array of experiences underpinned by renewable energy sources,
aligning seamlessly with the broader Saudi Green Initiative.
In yet another
monumental feat, RSG has accomplished the establishment of its inaugural
mangrove nursery. This pivotal initiative represents a cornerstone of its
objective to transplant 50 million mangrove trees by 2030, a commitment
harmonizing with the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative and RSG's larger
commitment to nurturing and reviving the ecological vibrancy of Saudi Arabia's
Red Sea Coast.
Raed Albasseet, Group
Chief Environment and Sustainability Officer at Red Sea Global, underlined the
significance of this initiative: "Cultivating a sustainable mangrove
ecosystem and fostering its conservation are integral to safeguarding and
enriching the natural ecosystem of our destination. Mangrove trees stand as
exceptional carbon sequestration agents, capable of absorbing 5-10 times more
carbon compared to other plants. The triumph of nurturing seedlings stands as a
foundational element in our mission to achieve a 30% net conservation benefit
across our projects."
Crafted in
collaboration with the National Center for Vegetation Cover (NCVC), the nursery
has achieved the successful cultivation of 150,000 seedlings to date, with a
grand objective of nurturing a total of 500,000 seedlings. This thriving
generation will subsequently be transplanted across the sprawling expanse of
The Red Sea projects.
