NEOM McLaren retains Jake Hughes for the 2024 Formula E World Championship

Renowned Formula E team NEOM McLaren has officially announced the retention of Jake Hughes for the upcoming 2024 Formula E World Championship. This decision comes as a nod to Hughes' impressive performance during his rookie campaign, establishing him as a valuable asset to the Woking-based team.

McLaren's decision to retain the British driver stems from his notable achievements during his debut season. Hughes secured two pole positions and achieved three top-five finishes, including a remarkable debut performance in Mexico City.

His remarkable performance during season nine indicates his potential to further excel with experience under his belt, with his one-lap pace already ranking among the best in the competitive paddock.

Reflecting on the continuation of his journey with the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team, Hughes expressed his contentment. He has been associated with the team since season seven, initially as a reserve driver when the outfit was known as Mercedes-EQ.

"I'm really happy to be remaining with the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team for Season 10," Hughes shared. "The team has been my home for a number of years, and I have loved every minute of it. We had a bit of a mixed season, but I had a lot of personal highlights which I'm hoping to build upon next year with the team and fight for wins and podiums, which I have no doubt we'll be able to achieve together. I can't wait for Season 10."

There are speculations that Hughes will be joined by seasoned Formula E driver Sam Bird, who previously raced for Jaguar TCS Racing. While this partnership seems promising, McLaren has yet to confirm this addition. Earlier this week, the team announced the departure of René Rast, someone Hughes had established a good rapport with.

Team Principal Ian James expressed his strong admiration for Hughes' debut season in Formula E and how seamlessly he integrated into the paddock. James is eager to witness the driver's future progress and the collective achievements of the driver and the team.

"I am excited to be able to share that we will be continuing our relationship with Jake," James stated. "Even though we never had any doubts about his performance, he impressed the team and the wider paddock with a great rookie season. Jake's commitment to the team and to Formula E is outstanding. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for Jake and the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team."

As the Formula E community anticipates the forthcoming season, Hughes' retention marks a significant step in the team's pursuit of excellence and competitive prowess on the electrifying racing circuit.
