Technal launches regional headquarters in Riyadh to propel Saudi Arabia towards a net zero future

Technal, a prominent provider of sustainable aluminium windows, doors, and facades solutions, and a subsidiary of Hydro Extruded Solutions, has taken a significant step towards supporting Saudi Arabia's Net Zero future by establishing its regional headquarters (RHQ) in Riyadh. The momentous announcement was made following a special event hosted at the Norwegian embassy in the capital city.

The event was graced by the presence of His Excellency (H.E.) Thomas Lid Ball, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Saudi Arabia, who expressed his pride in Technal's contribution to low carbon technologies in the construction sector. H.E. Thomas Lid Ball stated, "We are proud to have Technal in Saudi Arabia contributing to low carbon technologies for the construction sector. I am confident that Technal will contribute to implementing sustainable solutions that support the goals of Saudi Vision 2030."

As part of Hydro, a global aluminium and energy company with a vast presence in over 140 locations and 40 countries, Technal has been actively operating in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for more than four decades. During this time, the company has been dedicated to offering low carbon footprint aluminium, energy-efficient, and high-performance solutions for windows, doors, and facades. The establishment of the new regional headquarters in Riyadh will enable Technal to cater to its Saudi-based customers, architects, consultants, contractors, and developers with world-class aluminium products.

Sam Robinson, Managing Director of Hydro Building Systems - Asia, expressed excitement about this milestone, stating, "This is an exciting milestone as we outline our long-term interest in supporting decarbonization through our solutions in Saudi Arabia. By investing in recycled and recyclable products, building developers can lower the embodied carbon by a minimum of 75% and create more end-of-life value for their buildings, as well as contributing to a circular economy. Our aim is to contribute significantly to the Kingdom´s developments as it progresses towards a more sustainable future in line with Saudi Vision 2030."

Buildings are major contributors to global energy consumption, accounting for 40% of it. Technal's focus on offering sustainable aluminium windows, doors, and facades worldwide is aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of buildings. The Saudi Arabian market, with its numerous major construction developments, including the likes of NEOM and the Red Sea Development, holds substantial potential for the company. Technal is enthusiastic about expanding its business in Saudi Arabia and the broader region while continuing its support for major ongoing projects.

Saudi Arabia, as the Arab world's largest economy, has been actively diversifying its economy away from oil, resulting in an array of new projects across sectors like real estate, tourism, entertainment, and infrastructure. The construction sector in the country has remained robust, with a record reading in the first quarter of 2023, indicating higher workloads and growth. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia's commitment to meeting its net-zero pledge by 2060 includes generating 50% of its power from renewable sources by 2030 and reducing carbon emissions by 278 metric tons per annum by the same year. Technal's low carbon footprint and energy-efficient solutions for aluminium windows, doors, and facades aim to play a vital role in driving sustainable development in the Kingdom.

Acknowledging the increasing interest in urban mining due to strict emission regulations and depleting natural resources, Technal has embraced a circularity approach by investing in urban mining. The company has initiated initiatives to collect and recycle end-of-life aluminium, promoting circularity on a global scale.

Technal's sustainable aluminium solutions have been featured in key landmarks across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including the 1960's Bridgestone HQ, the Red Sea coastal village, and Diryah Gate. Additionally, the company has been involved in projects like the Riyadh metro, Hilton Garden Inn, Al Zamil Etlal Tower, Fairmont Ramla, and Qiddiya, making a substantial contribution to the sustainable development of the country's infrastructure.

With the launch of its regional headquarters in Riyadh, Technal is now poised to play a pivotal role in supporting Saudi Arabia's ambitious journey towards a Net Zero future, aligning with the country's vision for a sustainable and resilient future economy.
