The Mukaab – “cube” in Arabic – will be 400 meters tall and
wide and big enough to accommodate 20 Empire State Buildings.
It will be at
the heart of the New Murabba Project that aims to create the largest and
ultra-modern downtown in Riyadh.
This is the
latest development among a chain of ambitious infrastructure projects in the
oil rich kingdom as a part of its Vision2030 to diversify the country’s
economy.
It is understood
that Atkins is leading the design on the Mukaab project, but the company has so
far refused to comment on it.
The Mukaab will
house over 100,000 residential units, 9,000 hotel rooms and 1.4 million square
metres of office space, as well as dozens of entertainment and culture venues.
The building will also host 1.8 million sq. meters
of space to community facilities.
Crown prince
Mohammed bin Salman, who unveiled the project early this month, is overseeing
both NEOM and the Murabba Development Company, which is responsible for the
cube-shaped tower.
