A Contemporary Expression of Najdi Heritage
Positioned near the UNESCO World Heritage
Site of At-Turaif, Capella Diriyah draws from the birthplace of the
Kingdom and the foundations of Saudi architectural identity. The design echoes
the solid-and-void composition, earthy tones and spatial hierarchy that define
traditional Najdi buildings.
Organised around a series of courtyards, the
hotel transitions gradually from lively communal spaces to secluded retreats.
This layered planning approach reflects regional social traditions, encouraging
interaction while safeguarding privacy. The architectural language embraces the
desert rather than separating from it, framing expansive horizons and
reinforcing Diriyah’s reputation as the “City of Earth.”

Stone façades etched with geometric patterns
respond dynamically to sunlight, casting shifting shadows that animate the
building throughout the day and reinterpret Najdi craftsmanship in a
contemporary form.
Architecture Shaped by Light and Sky
The hotel’s design mirrors the rhythm of the
desert, from intense daylight to the soft glow of evening. Courtyards, terraces
and architectural screens allow natural light to filter through interiors,
creating changing atmospheres as the day progresses.
Geometric motifs inspired by Najdi design
introduce movement and texture, enriching both interior and exterior spaces. In
recognition of Saudi Arabia’s clear night skies, dedicated stargazing areas are
integrated into the scheme. Open-air terraces, balconies and selected suites
with retractable roofs offer guests uninterrupted views of the stars, adding a
distinctive experiential layer to their stay.
Landscape: An Oasis Inspired by the Wadi
The landscape concept responds to the natural
contours of the surrounding wadi. Water features guide guests through the
grounds, enhancing the sensory journey. A structured grid of date palms casts
dappled shade, while locally sourced stone strengthens the connection to place.
Intricate screening elements reveal glimpses
of shaded courtyards, and native planting cultivates a tranquil, oasis-like
environment rooted in Diriyah’s ecology.
