AMAALA partners with Diriyah Art Biennale to champion creative talent
AMAALA has
strengthened its commitment to Saudi Arabia’s growing cultural landscape
through a partnership with the Diriyah Art Biennale, championing both local and
international creative talent.
As part of its sponsorship, AMAALA hosted a
private luncheon during the Biennale’s pre-opening programme, welcoming leading
figures from the arts, culture, and media communities ahead of the official
launch.
A commissioned celebration of Red Sea heritage
The centrepiece of the evening was an exclusive,
multi-disciplinary performance commissioned by AMAALA titled Sounds of the Red Sea.

Blending sound, poetry, and movement, the
performance drew inspiration from the Northern Red Sea’s cultural heritage — a
region historically shaped by journeys between coastlines, mountains, and
inland trade routes, where music and oral traditions travelled with
communities. The piece fused mawwal, contemporary sound art, spoken word, and
the traditional Al-Refaihy dance, reinterpreting these forms through a modern
artistic lens.
Live vocals intertwined with electronic
composition and choreographed movement to create an immersive sonic experience,
encouraging guests to pause, listen, and reflect. Rooted in tradition yet
forward-looking in execution, the work reflected AMAALA’s broader cultural
philosophy: authentic foundations expressed through contemporary creativity.
The commissioned ensemble brought together
regional and international artists from multiple disciplines, underscoring
AMAALA’s dedication to nurturing diverse voices and fostering cross-cultural
collaboration.
Culture at the heart of destination identity
Held at the JAX District in Diriyah, the
Biennale’s third edition — titled In
Interludes and Transitions — runs from 30 January to May 2026 and features
more than 65 artists exploring themes of migration and transformation.
