Saudi Arabia: Fourth edition of Desert X AlUla 2026 brings together 11 renowned artists
Desert X AlUla 2026, the fourth edition of the international open-air biennial exhibition, has officially opened in the historic oasis of AlUla, Saudi Arabia. Organized by Arts AlUla in collaboration with Desert X, the exhibition features site-responsive earthworks, sculptures and installations by leading Saudi and international artists. Running until February 28, the event is a centerpiece of the AlUla Arts Festival.
This year’s edition brings together 11 renowned artists, whose works draw directly on AlUla’s dramatic landscape and cultural heritage. The exhibition presents a wide range of artistic expressions — from kinetic installations to sound-based works — reflecting diverse ideas, materials and traditions shaped by the desert environment.
Curated by Wejdan Reda and Zoé Whitley, with artistic direction by Neville Wakefield and Raneem Farsi, Desert X AlUla 2026 is themed “Space Without Measure,” inspired by the writings of Kahlil Gibran. The theme invites visitors to explore concepts of scale, perception and connection within the vast desert setting.

Hamad Alhomiedan, Director of Arts and Creative Industries at the Royal Commission for AlUla, said the exhibition enables audiences to experience art that is deeply rooted in AlUla’s landscapes and history. He noted that Desert X AlUla forms part of a wider strategy to position AlUla as a global hub for contemporary art, alongside future initiatives such as Wadi AlFann, a permanent land art valley scheduled to open from 2028.
Participating artists include Sara Abdu, Mohammad Alfaraj, Mohammed AlSaleem, Tarek Atoui, among others, each presenting works that engage with and reflect AlUla’s natural and cultural identity.
